GBCF iLab Transition- Policy changes and User Guide

Dear PIs and Researchers,

Happy New Year! As we begin the Spring 2021 semester, we would like to share with you the most recent operational changes to the Genomics & Bioinformatics Core Facility (GBCF).

iLab Core Facility Management System

As of January 6, 2021, the GBCF is using iLab, an online system to streamline the process of ordering and billing for core service requests and scheduling sample drop-off.  All facility users are requested to use the system, which requires a one-time registration. Principal Investigators must register to assign laboratory members to their iLab group. Once registered, the system will enable PIs to approve memberships for their group so they can place service requests, provide required approvals, monitor progress, and schedule sample drop-offs.

We have prepared a reference guide to help navigate the registration process and locate support resources: Genomics and Bioinformatics Core Facility: Getting Started Guide - Internal Users

Also, check our website (genomics.nd.edu) as we will add new reference guides and demos based on frequently asked questions and comments.

Additionally, we encourage you to attend our “iLab GBCF: Intro to service requests” Zoom session where we will demonstrate how to create service requests and schedule reservations in a calendar during the first 30 minutes. The session will remain active to answer specific questions and collect feedback, and be recorded and available on our website. If you like to see more demonstrations, let us know what you’d like to see.

Policy and Procedure Changes

Effective immediately, the GBCF is adjusting how we process samples for researchers. We ask that users communicate with facility staff by email, phone, or Zoom appointment. Samples will continue to be delivered contactless using reserved times and a cooler outside the facility for collection. Importantly, we also ask users to download our new Excel submission forms, which have been redesigned based on comments and feedback. Previous versions of our Excel submission forms can not be accepted.

Reminders

  • iLabs for placing service requests and to schedule sample drop-off
  • Communicate with facility staff by email, phone, or Zoom appointment
  • Samples delivered contactless
